A MODEL SHELTER
A widely praised model shelter, entirely operated by volunteers. We have recently undergone some exciting changes, and are rewriting the rules of sheltering. Yes, we take dogs in and adopt them out. We also go beyond that to give as many dogs as possible roles that benefit the dogs, their owners and the community. We have been actively developing partnerships and unique programs that are examples of our new theme...

Take a
Pledge!
Our top priority has always been to allocate 100% of all donations to the care and well-being of our animals, and we will continue to do so. A constant stream of needy, abandoned and neglected dogs, frightened and lonely, find comfort and care with us. We need your help to be able to continue our work!

A select group of our dogs spend six weeks at Green Chimneys, a nationally acclaimed school for special needs children in Brewster NY. We teach the kids to train the dogs. They gain self-esteem and a new skill; the dogs become more adoptable. The bonding and affection are mutual. Every dog in the program (100+ and growing) has been adopted.

OUR DOGS
We always have a group of amazing dogs, just waiting to be matched with their special person. Contact us or visit the shelter. Check our Contact page for opening hours. All our adoptable dogs can also be found on our petfinder.com page. Click below.

MollY's Fund

THE BETTY WHITE CHALLENGE!
In honor of Betty White's lifelong commitment to the welfare of animals, we're asking you to donate to Molly's Fund. Now through January 17th, which would have been her 100th birthday!

Animals for Adoption has established Molly’s Fund with the goal of helping pet owners who need financial assistance for their pets’ veterinary care.
This fund is named for Molly, a mixed breed dog, who was the Yuan family’s faithful companion for more than 16 years. Animals for Adoption transported Molly from Tennessee to our shelter in upstate New York in 2005. She quickly and completely won over the hearts of the Yuans and spent the next 16 ½ years as a beloved and loyal family member, moving from New York City to Hong Kong and back to the U.S. with the Yuans. Losing Molly in late 2021 was devastating.
In Molly’s memory, her family has made a generous donation to help establish Molly’s Fund, which will assist pet owners who find themselves unable to afford proper veterinary care for their pets’ medical issues. We encourage you to join us in helping people and their deserving animals live their best lives. Click on the donate icon!

Our Shelter Thrift Store is stocked and ready to go - all we need is a few volunteers to staff it! Open Saturdays 12pm - 4pm!
100% of every purchase goes directly to the care of our shelter dogs.

Much, much more....

Some of our dogs reside at a prison in Eastern PA where the prisoners learn dog training and behavior, and animal care.
Prison officials find that these skills and interactions with the dogs provide a calming influence on prisoners and instill a sense of responsibility.
The dogs are so well trained that they generally are quickly adopted after their residence there.

We rely on the help of our many volunteers. Volunteers are needed for the following:
-
transport dogs to/from the vet
-
socialize puppies
-
take dogs to training classes
-
walk & play with shelter dogs
-
help with office admin tasks
