Train-to-Adopt™

Quality of LifeAnimals for Adoption's Train-to-Adopt™ program is a commitment to Quality of Life for all dogs in shelters. Individuals and shelters can certify and learn to train shelter dogs to enhance adoptability and carry out behavioral exercises to keep shelter dogs calm, sane, and content. Animals for Adoption outlines minimum Train-to-Adopt™ requirements for dogs in shelters and trains staff and volunteers to implement simple, low, or no cost measures that can keep dogs adoptable and make the shelter a friendly and inviting place.

The benefits of attending to the behavioral, mental, and emotional health and well being of shelter dogs are many. Dogs that are identified as behaviorally adoptable can maintain their temperaments/dispositions and not lose their ability to connect with people. Even dogs that may ultimately be euthanized deserve to experience the same high quality of life as dogs that may ultimately be adopted.

Quality of LifeTo find out how your shelter or rescue group can provide the most humane care possible for the dogs in your facility, please read Sue's Great Dog Adoptions: A Guide for Shelters published by the Latham Foundation and attend one of the workshops listed under Calendar of Events.
